You’ve read my posts over the years. Some months I’m a vegetarian, some months eating some fish, and others I’m doing something completely different. Every month I (ahem) try to make healthy choices although I still love kettle chips, kettle corn and french fries. Everybody has weaknesses. Don’t judge me. LOL! Besides, they’re still vegetables (potatoes and corn) right?
Anyway, I needed a decent protein shake that did not contain dairy or other animal products, so I researched vegan protein shakes. To my surprise, there are lots of options. Who knew? I’m only pseudo vegetarian–definitely not a real vegan.
Reviewers said the Vega One product line was the “tastiest.”
I decided against buying a huge tub of powder because many-a-tub has been bought with good intentions and they still remain in a cabinet somewhere nearby. I made my way to the nearest health food store and purchased several individual packets of various flavors to try. If I didn’t like them, no biggie.
I tried Berry first. I found my underutilized blender/shaker bottle with mixing ball, added ice, water and the power and did the shake, shake, shake dance. Let me preface this next part by saying I am NOT a fan of the green drinks of late. (Kale, spinach and apple shakes, mixing broccoli in a smoothie, etc.) I don’t mind eating my veggies, not drinking thick, green drinks.
How ’bout when I mixed this stuff, it turned green? I was done.
I looked at it for a minute, took a picture and sent it to Kimyatta Walker of the blog, SoSaysKimyatta. I figured she’d get a kick out of it. She asked me how it tasted. I had to give her an answer.
I read the label as I took a big swig. Not bad–not bad at all. I scanned the ingredients on the package as I continued. Well, it is green for a reason. I had to think of happy thoughts as I drank the rest. It didn’t taste bad at all. In fact, for a protein shake with no milk or fresh fruit, it was pretty good. But it’s green—and it’s green for a reason. Anyway, it did the trick and has a cleansing effect. (Read between the lines.)
So, I will buy more berry and try the chocolate flavor next. Um, chocolate flavored vegetables? I dunno.
Should be interesting…stay tuned.
